You know for sure that at some point a TV or film executive will be clearing out a loft sometime and uncover an old Papa or Baby Smurf, rub his chin fiendishly and say "I've just had a brilliant idea." Yeah, of course you have - more 80s crud, just what we need!

Just been watching the rugby on TV, French rugby fans dressed as Smurfs - the Name Generator needs to include a 'translate' button.

One can only imagine the money generated by these little falsetto-voiced mis-shapes.

Film 1965 - the foreign language classic, Les Aventures des Schtroumpfs" (I kid you not - my parenthesis, not the film's). Gross=...yes.

TV 1981 -NBC ran a Hanna Barbera series which was finally taken off the air in 1989. Eight years of smurfitude. Dear Me, we watched anything in those days.

DVD Series releases have continued sporadically for the last 2 decades and in Australia they even created a 'Smurfettes' series (vertically challenged smurfs?), they stopped selling these in the mid 1990s.

Film 2011 - A 3D version of The Smurfs comes to our screens starring Neil Patrick Harris etc.

On the back of the film release, the Aussies and Warner Brothers start to remarket the DVDS, not in series but as single episodes (presumably inspired by greed and a desire to rip off children).

And go and check out ebay...everybody else has been raking through bags of their kids old stuff in the loft in search of Smurfy Bullion!
